Influence

A few years ago I saw a play my sister was in, "The Dining Room". I really didn't remember anything about that show, other than one detail that I now am going to incorporate into the script that I'm writing. In "The Dining Room" before a scene ends, the next one starts. This is a huge deal for me because I haven't been able to think of any real influences so far that really impacted what I was doing. I found a copy of the play in my sister's room that she never returned to the library. I'm going to be reading this weekend. I hope by the time next week comes I can be able to fully incorporate this idea.

  1. I read your first draft. My, you are covering a lot of deep, prickly ground right from the get go, aren't you? Very brave!

I want you to consider the following questions and post answers either on your blog or via email.

    1) Do you see this piece being performed, and if so, where and when?
    2) Consider audience. What are you looking to get from them?
    3) What questions does this piece open up in you? It is an exploration - what are you exploring? From what issues or problems are you seeking clarity?
    4) Are you asking questions or providing answers?

I want you to read "How I Learned to Drive" by Paula Vogel - Viviana might have a copy of it. I also want you to get your hands on "Angels in America" by Tony Kusher. These are good plays for you to read.
